Synchronize a SharePoint library to your computer ( office365)

Solution

You can synchronize a SharePoint library to your computer and make the documents available to you when you are offline.

What can be synchronized?

  • It is only possible to synchronize document libraries of SharePoint 2013 or later.
  • You cannot synchronize a single folder or document. Trying to do so will result in synchronizing the entire document library.

To synchronize a SharePoint library:

  1. Make sure that the OneDrive for Business client is installed on your machine.
  2. Navigate to the library you want to synchronize.
  3. Click the Synchronize the current document library icon ().
  4. Click Sync Now.

To view the synchronized document libraries:

Once you synchronize the first SharePoint library on your computer, a new location is added to the sites drop-down list, called SharePoint (local files). Select this location to view the synchronized document libraries and associated documents.

View your synchronized documents.

To view the synchronization state of a document/folder:

An icon overlaid on the documents/folder icon indicates the synchronization state:

  • Synchronized ()
  • Pending ()
  • Error ()

To stop synchronizing a document library:

  1. Right-click the Microsoft OneDrive for Business icon () in the Notification Area.
  2. Select Stop syncing a folder.
  3. Select the folder and click Stop syncing.
  4. Click Yes to confirm, and then click OK.
